Staff at Russell Group and other prominent universities consider “good written English” overwhelmingly more important than mention of extra-curricular activities such as work experience, community services, sports or arts when assessing university personal statements.

The results, published in an annual survey released today, found just one-in-three admissions tutors view work experience as important on a university application, despite students frequently being told it is key to application success.
